Delta Not to be Outdone by Continental on Central America Airfares

Delta is openly challenging Continental Airlines by lowering airfares from Houston to a number of Central American cities by $75. Destinations include:

* Costa Rica
* Managua
* Guatemala
* Honduras
* San Salvador
* Belize

While Continental offers many direct flights to Central America, Delta will route its flights through its hub in Atlanta. In order to give itself more leverage, Delta has also dropped prices from Lima, to cities where Continental and Northwest offer connecting flights including Detroit, Portland, Denver, Minneapolis and Seattle.

Air Canada Files a $4 Each Way Airfare Increase

In January, Air Canada made two attempts at system-wide airfare increases. Both attempts met with limited success. However, they have made another attempt, issuing a $4 fare each way increase that affects 166 major city pairs and is applicable to mid-tier airfares.

Air Canada doesn’t stand by itself, as United Airlines has filed 3,604 $4 each-way increases for major city pairs between the U.S. and Canada. It remains to be seen whether this increase can find more success than previous legacy airline increase attempts made earlier in 2007.
